Thank you for your comment.

We don't have a lot of time, I fully agree. It is troubling to see the poseurs in DC acting like the situation is improving.

If they think so, they're deluded. If they don't then they should try the truth for a change.

We're at the mercy of anomalous events or random discoveries to right the imbalance, I'm afraid.

We're in a fair way to seriously compete with the Roman Empire for decadence and cruelty. All the shocking and degrading signs are on the increase: greed and selfishness are everywhere; rude, aggressive behavior abounds; road rage is a constant threat, people push and shove at the mall and the supermarket, and everyone is persistently "in the way" of everybody else, all of whom are pretty darn steamed about it, and eager to express themselves in rude and crude, abusive language on the internet.

If I recall my history lessons, Confucius believed that the spirit of a nation originated from the top down, and he advocated that a ruler (the Emperor) should strive toward perfection, and by his example should inspire his Ministers and other officials toward perfection, who in turn would inspire their subordinates and so on down to the lowliest peasant.

Here and now, we have the opposite: the top levels of power are rotten to the point of nearly liquid putrescence, and it's infecting the whole society like gangrene. If we don't find a way to clean up our act, our nation is heading for the dung heap of history, and it won't take us long to get there. Just in my lifetime I've seen the end of a 50 year blessed respite from planned bubble-and-burst stock market shenanigans, brought to an ignominious close by the onset of Reaganomics. Of course, McCarthyism and the Cold War were the first visible manifestations of rot that I remember, but I'm sure the nation showed other, more subtle symptoms that I was too young to notice at the time.

The patient is sinking fast, and she's going to take us with her, and it's going to be ugly. Oh, so ugly.
